It is used to connect singlemode or multimode fiber optic cables with FC/UPC – ST/UPC connectors, which are mostly used in distributions frame, connecting patchcords with pigtails welded with optic cable. Singlemode adapters are made of bronze housing and ceramic sleeves and it is more precise than multimode adapter. It can be used with fibre optic patchcords, which send high-speed data through a network.

Singlemode fiber has a small core diameter that supports only one mode of light. Signal is traveling in a single light beam with close to none reflection. Low reflection ratio means lower dispersion. That makes them perfect for long distance because signal can be transmitted without usage of fibre amplifier even to 100 km.
